| These units are available in combination of either Thyristor on primary and diodes on secondary or back to back, i.e. Thyristor's both on primary and secondary. Output ripple content is fairly high, between 20% and 30% unless special chokes / filters are used and which make the system expensive. Further, in the event of electrical shorting, expensive Thyristor's are to be replaced. Advantages : i. More efficiency. Disadvantages : i. Highly susceptible to external short circuits. |
